Musik ‘n Muffins

Do I need to know how to read music?
No, you don’t! In Session One of Musik ‘n Muffins, we will start at the beginning, learning to read music as we learn to play the piano.
What if I already know how to read music, but want to learn to play the piano?
Session One is also for you! Each participant goes at a pace that is comfortable for them. Once you are comfortable with ‘keyboard geography’, you will be able to advance to higher levels.
I think it sounds like fun, but I don’t own a piano.
Give me a call, & we can talk about options. There is a workable & affordable option for everyone!
I think it sounds like fun, but I have arthritis.
Last year I was struck with intense pain in my hands, arms, & shoulders. I was told I may never play the piano again. I am very fortunate; after a few months of physical therapy, I slowly began to be able to play again, increasing my time at the piano little by little. My condition is not going to go away, but I have learned how to manage it. One thing is for sure; I now understand pain & difficulties playing. In Musik ‘n Muffins, we are here to enjoy music together, support one another, & figure out how to be the best we can be given our unique capabilities & limitations. Unless your physician objects, you can join us! We will help you find ways to play so that you can enjoy making music on your own & with the group.
Wouldn’t I learn more quickly if I just took private lessons?
You would probably learn just as quickly, but probably not any more quickly. Musik ‘n Muffins has a broader goal than to just learn to play the piano. There are many benefits to group classes:
*Groups promote energy, momentum, positive social interaction, bonding, cooperative learning & teamwork.
*People love playing in ensembles! Group music is an exciting social event for the participants. Imagine ‘jamming’ together at the end of each class!
*Participants are relieved not to be alone in tackling difficult tasks. Group classes allow participants to meet with others with common interests & join in working toward a common goal. This promotes a unique group identity.
I'd like to try it, but I’m still not sure…
